At the County Convention, there were half a dozen young men under 21 who lobbied hard to get to elected delegates to the State convention...but I have yet to see any of them at the committee meetings. Is it because they are not Central Committee members?
We really need to mobilize the Young Dems of Douglas if we expect to root out the Republican fossils who have ruled here for many years. Frankly, I don't believe we can do it without them. Former Dem candidates commented at the last meeting that the repubs will out spend us no matter how much money we raise. So it comes down to commitment and man power.
Do we realize that the young Dems and Repubs of Douglas have the power to entirely take over *both* county parties of they choose? It would only take a few dozen of each party to join, vote themselves into the leadership and pursure their own adgenda. Wouldn't that be amazing? If they only knew.
There are many miles to walk, thousands of pieces of literature to give out and a thousand conversations to initiate if we are going to make a dent in the stodgy old school politics that has ruled here for a long time. We need them badly if we expect to win. They would be especially valuable in the online segment of this campaign as well.
I personally don't know any of the young guys who were at the convention. If any of us "do" know how to get their attention, it would be great for us older folks to have the benefit of their energy and commitment. It may be that the measure of our success directly correlates with the presence of The Young Dems Douglas.
